EXCERPT:

CARLA
No one's going to see what you have to offer if you're miserable all the time.

JESSIE
Strangers don't usually know when I'm miserable. I can fake it when I need to.

CARLA
No, you can't. You are a bad faker.

JESSIE
I'm not. You're not getting the version of me that I usually show to the world. I'm being honest here because it's therapy and I won't get anything out of it if all I do is lie to you. I've been doing this long enough to know that. You don't know what I'm like when I'm out in the world.

CARLA
Trust me, someone would have to be blind to not see how miserable you are. My impression of you is that you're like a neglected, homeless kid.

JESSIE
I have to say, that makes me feel really defensive.

CARLA
Looking at you makes me want to take you shopping for some clothes and straighten up your apartment.
