Behind the Scenes

The Wrong Way

I wanted to be the hero who rescued you
From your self-inflicted storm
I wanted to be the one you'd run to,
The one to keep you safe and warm
I wanted to be the savior of your wandering soul
I wanted to be the missing piece,
The one to make you whole

I had to learn the hard way
It was the wrong way
I couldn't save you
You couldn't even save yourself

I dived into the dark waters of adoration,
Allowed myself to sink on down
And because I tried to save you,
We both had to drown

I had to learn the hard way
It was the wrong way
I couldn't save you
You had to save yourself

I am held to a pattern, repeating the same mistake
Re-learning what I already knew
Just a little too late

I had to learn the hard way
It was the wrong way
I couldn't save you
I can't even save myself
