Vision & Verse
If I could, I'd shut you out, I'd shut me down
But I can't hate you, when you see through me the way you do
See through this impression, these intentions
You took just one look, and you knew
I can't fight this anymore, I can't pretend, I can't ignore
I can't play nice, I can't just be,
Not with you lying next to me,
I can't move, I can't lie still,
Your poetry is overkill,
Don't ask me how, but you had me at, "What now?"
You tell me pretty clichés, just to hear yourself speak
You know it isn't your vocabulary that gets me sweet and weak
You don't have to speak in poetry
I'm easier than that, you know me
I'll keep up my poker face,
We'll go back to my place
And you can spend the night
Even though I know I'm still recovering from our last fight
I'm still scarred, and I'm still bruised,
But it's not as though I could have refused
Don't ask me how, but you had me at, "What now?"
And it's disgusting how much I care
For someone who's never there
Forgive the blank and stoic stare
Just faking indifference to keep from crying
But you let me know you know I'm lying
You can't blame a girl for trying
I hate that you know me so well
You're a pretentious mind-fuck, you put me through hell
So why, then, am I such an easy sell?
Don't ask me how, but you had me at, "What now?"
The last thing I want is to let you win
To open myself up and let you in
The last thing I want is to love you again
You've hurt me so many times before
And here I am, coming back for more
The movie ends, the credits roll,
And this time, I don't need you,
And I'm happy, and I'm whole
And you come up with the perfect line,
And your mouth finds its way to mine,
Don't ask me how, but you had me at, "What now?"
