Living History
Moving easily between the present and the past
Faced with conditioning, forgiveness falls away fast
Things I thought I'd forgotten, unapologetic sin
Every trespass, every outrage is brought to life again
Every hypocritical indictment, every lie he told
Every new injury re-opens all the old
My mind hates itself for its subtle insolence
Even my aphorisms betray unfortunate ambivalence
I resolved to mix my metaphors and burn him out of my hair
But no matter how deep I bleed the roots survive somewhere
Like a broken record, repeating a faded, tired tune
I resolve to get on with my life - soon.
