Fifth Wheel
I never thought these childish games would be our undoing
I never thought I'd end up on the outside, without you
I thought we were better than these petty deceptions
It breaks my heart to learn how it feels to doubt you
I never thought the day would come when I couldn't count on you
I never thought I'd lose you to words that went unsaid
I never thought you'd let me down, now I'm falling fast
Whatever you never felt for me must have been only in my head
So, when I can't manage a poker face
When the empty laughter gets too loud
When I can't drown my pride in alcohol
I'll know that five's a crowd
I thought I was someone who meant something to you
But these days I'm not one of the chosen few
Maybe you don't realize this is me you're not talking to
These days it seems like I can't do anything right
I try to be your friend, and all you do is pick a fight
You don't seem to care about me or the way this exclusion makes me feel
There's room for four that you adore, you make me the fifth wheel
So, when I can't manage a poker face
When the empty laughter gets too loud
When I can't drown my pride in alcohol
I'll know that five's a crowd
When I can't pretend this doesn't hurt
When the growing silence screams out loud
When I can't fight the way I miss you
That's when I'll know five's a crowd
