Benefit of Hindsight
I always knew you never knew me
Saw me, and yet looked right through me.
I was held to the pattern in which I was caught
You never gave me a second thought.
Poems for you could have filled a book
You never gave me a second look.
I forgave and forgave, gave you chance after chance
You never gave me a second glance
My soul cried, and my heart bled
I gave you a book, which you still haven't read
I gave you my hope, the benefit of all doubt
You gave me nothing I wasn't better off without
And though you were everything to me
I always knew you never knew me
I always knew you never knew me
But what I never knew
Is that everything I loved was false,
I never knew you.
