What Goes Around is up on Flask & Pen.

They also e-mailed me to let me know they're putting "Sudden Death" up on Oct. 16, and "Scorch & Glory" on Nov. 2. A couple days after my birthday, that's nice.

November is NaNoWriMo. It would be fun to do it again - and during the right month - but I'm not sure I have another novel in me. I just want someone to push me to do it.

Last night I dreamed about my face rotting off.

Again.

Long story short: We don't know when the free housing that comes with Amanda's job will be ready. Amanda has a second interview for another job today, and we're going to look at an apartment in Liberty on Tuesday. It's $700 a month for two bedrooms, that includes heat; it's near buses. I'm going to ask about a month-to-month lease, so that if/when free housing does become available, we can move into that instead.

Today is Amanda's birthday! Happy birthday, Amanda. Too bad she doesn't read my blog.

Poems

Monday, September 24, 2007 @ 10:46 PM

I just got word some of my older poems are going to be published on Flask and Pen. They'll be posting "Scorch & Glory" and "What Goes Around" which are already in the Poetry section, and also "Sudden Death," a revised version of "The Death of Texas." There's no money involved, just publicity, another line on the resume. Still.

High School & Hallucinations

Last night was the second time in recent memory when I have dreamed that I was forced, for some reason or another, to go back to high school. I'm always annoyed by this turn of events, but I'm glad that Michelle and Megan and other familiar faces are back there with me, and we pass notes in class and do just enough work to get A's - which isn't very much at all, 'cause we're smart and we've already been to college. Last night I dreamed about a U-High graduation ceremony, but it was in Stroud, not in Braden and there were only about six people. Eric Sorak was there, and for some reason, a couple of people much older than me. The logic of the dream started to crumble at this point, because I was asking, "Wait, what the hell? You graduated like six years ago!" Funny that I didn't question being sent back to high school, but I did question having to do another graduation ceremony. As soon as I got my diploma, I walked out into the audience, found my mom, and got the hell out of there.

This morning while I was still half-asleep I thought I heard a child crying. Then I thought my mom came in and said, "Are you crying?" And I said, "No, it's not me. But I hear it too." But she was already at work.

Today I am sending vibes of love to Michelle, who I think might be the only person who still keeps up with my blog and comments. And who, apparently, I would go back to high school with, just for the pleasure of her company. Love for Michelle!

Michelle, about seven years ago

Writing stuff

Sunday, September 23, 2007 @ 3:44 PM

A month has gone by, and I still don't have a name for my serial killer play. It bothers me from time to time. It needs a real title, and I can't figure out what it should be.

I've been developing an idea about an Internet hoax but it's still in the planning stages. Very vague. But at least I have a title for that. I think.

Tim has a cast for Bargaining. I forget the dates, but I'll try to get those out. It's sometime around Thanksgiving.

I've been adding lots of new monologues to The Monologue Database, and created a section on the "Favorite Monologues" page just for the ones written by Josh and I. Play sales are up, presumably because kids are back in drama classes and having fall auditions.

I love autumn.

Dreams of all shapes and topics

Saturday, September 22, 2007 @ 9:55 AM

Last night I dreamed that I cut my hand open. It was bad, there was blood everywhere. And I kept running around trying to get someone to help me, but everyone was like, "Oh, Kellie, you're such a drama queen..." and ignored me. No one would help. It was a really deep cut. Does this remind anyone of two real-life situations? Name them for extra credit.

The night before last I dreamed that Chelsea was having an affair with Rob. Not Bobby, who she dated in real life, but Rob "When did our circle of friends become a circle of pain?" from Simple in Theory. While asleep, I combined my two universes - Binghamton and Normal - and somehow, Chelsea ended up with Rob! What the fuck? But it gets weirder. Slowly, I begin to suspect that Rob is also sleeping with Lindsay! So I keep trying to corner Rob to confront him, but I can't because he and the band (which had Justin and Aaron in it) was filming a video or something. And this girl I didn't recognize kept trying to get me to fix her skirt. (Because I am a master seamstress, right?) And I was like, "What's wrong with it?" And she said, "It's unflattering."

AMANDA GOT A JOB!

Monday, September 17, 2007 @ 3:07 PM

Hallelujah, saints be praised, AMANDA GOT A JOB!

It is in Monticello, which is kind of in the middle of nowhere, but that won't be so important if we get FREE HOUSING. There is free on-site housing available and if Amanda gets it and I can live there too, that means NO RENT!

Imagine it: We'd dance around our free apartment, singing!

We're not gonna pay!
We're not gonna pay!
We're not gonna pa-ay!
Last year's rent!
This year's rent!
Next year's rent!
Rent-rent-rent-rent-rent!
We're not gonna pay rent!

It sounds like it's a job she'll really like and find rewarding, and they'll pay her decent money, and I'll substitute teach and write and put on plays - even if it is in the middle of freaking nowhere, I won't care because I won't be have to work 9-5 five days a week and hate my life because I won't have to pay rent!

Seriously: Dream come true! Miracles can and do happen. Merry X-mas (War is over!) AMANDA GOT A JOB! I am so fucking excited!

Seriously, please answer this question.

Monday, September 10, 2007 @ 8:59 PM

I have a Chuck-Klosterman-like hypothetical question, inspired by real-life events. A close friend of yours is organizing an artistic event. (Try to think of one of your friends who is likely to organize an artistic event and what kind of event they would plan - a play, a dance concert, etc.) They invite you, in person, and tell you that there will be "life-altering events."

What is your reaction?

Five Days in Illinois

Thursday, September 06, 2007 @ 3:11 PM

I can't express how bipolar my trip to Illinois was. I have never had so much misery and so much joy and so much rage and so much anxiety crammed into any other five-day period. The joy parts included getting to see and talk to Michelle, Erin, Dan, and Tim. The anxiety, misery and rage portions were all my brother's fault. I didn't get to see Josh, or the dance spectacular. That kind of hurts my solar plexus.

I've given Tim my blessing to direct Bargaining for the ISU Free Stage Festival. I'm told performances will be the weekend after Thanksgiving. I'll post more details when I have them.

I feel like there's more self-censorship than self-expression in those paragraphs. That's frustrating for me.
