Rest in Peace, Ze Kaiser

Monday, April 25, 2005 @ 4:31 PM

I miss Kaiser Sose. I know it might seem strange to still be mourning for a hamster, but he was not an ordinary hamster. Plus, he was the best roommate I've ever had. It's depressing to come home at the end of the day to an empty apartment, and know that you could choke on a pretzel and die there, and no one would notice until your rotting corpse started to bother the patrons of the bookstore downstairs. Kaiser Sose needed me, he needed me to feed him and give him water and keep his cage clean. And maybe I'm delusional, but I think he needed my attention and love, too. I miss that.

Today Sucked

Tuesday, April 12, 2005 @ 10:47 PM

The subject line really says it all. I cheered myself up by making too many phone calls to Gabel and buying the following at Alamo. I'm posting the list so that if you ever feel like cheering me up, you know what to buy me:

* A brand new COLLEGE RULE notebook
* A bottle of skim milk
* Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Fudge ice cream
* This month's copy of "The New Yorker"

After I get out of work, Erin and I are going to Krispy Kreme to buy a box of donuts. Seriously, today was that bad.

Aneurysms & Apple Juice

Monday, April 11, 2005 @ 12:53 PM

This weekened, Seth showed up at my door, after a long hiatus. He still lives in Rochelle, but he was in town for the evening to play music with his band, Running From Right, at The Coffeehouse. He may move back to Normal, eventually. I gathered some folks and went to watch his show.

He performed my favorite song, "I Didn't Used to Like Apple Juice." It has some great lines, one of the best is: "The line between a friend and good intentions has been crossed and I've got nothing to show."

It's a busy time for me. I'm not sleeping well, I'm not eating well, I'm worrying about everything. I feel distanced from life. I'm just not doing well.

You Never Thought You'd See the Day...

Thursday, April 07, 2005 @ 9:18 PM

I finally got my domain updated! There's not a lot of new content, but I at least deleted all the really out-of-date stuff! I added some monologues to the database, I updated the Shoes main page with info. about this summer, and I put new features on the fundraising page. I've got some really great ideas for future updates, so keep checking back.

Aaron Restores My Faith in Humanity

Monday, April 04, 2005 @ 7:21 PM

Recently, posters have been circulating around the ISU campus regarding a cartoon on the Viewpoint page. The cartoon featured a coffin with an American flag on it, and military men standing behind it. There was a sign that said, "Help Wanted. Positions Available Inside." An arrow pointed into the coffin.

Posters started appearing around campus that read as follows:
BOYCOTT THE DAILY VIDETTE. This is how the Daily Vidette thanks the troops that protect our freedoms! This cartoon was run in the Daily Vidette on Wednesday February 23. This is not how real Americans show support for their troops. Don't stand for cheap shots at our troop's expense. GOD BLESS THE UNITED STATES AND OUR TROOPS OVERSEAS.

I happened to find a copy of the poster today while killing time in Fell Hall. And incidentally, someone I went to high school with had written a response.

This is not at all unpatriotic. This was intended to illustrate how it is unpatrioticc for our leaders to send our troops off to die for stupid reasons. If you think that loving your country means that you cannot criticize the politically motivated decisions that our leaders make, then deport me. I love America, and more importantly, I love the people in it. When America's short-sighted leaders choose to use this country and its people to push their own agendas with a clearly dire consequence, it is not only the right, but the duty of a patriotic American to criticize. Before you shit on everybody who disagrees with the "official line," consider what this country means to you. America is what we make of it.

Nothing about geology actually rocks...

Friday, April 01, 2005 @ 4:01 PM

I spent the better part of last night studying for today's geology test. It still kicked my ass. (I HATE SCIENCE!) I'm so glad that my only other "sciency" type class is going to be an online course over the summer ("Dynamics of Contemporary U.S. Health Issues"). Yay liberal arts education. Sarcasm. Maybe I don't want to be well-rounded, did you ever think of that?

Perks of life: I went to Denny's for the second night in a row. Wed. night I went out with Allison and Michelle, and had an Oreo Sundae. Last night I went out with Liz and Erin, and had an Oreo Sundae. Noticing a pattern?

Tonight, we (Erin, Liz, Gabel & I) are going to see "Sin City," and I'm p'syched! Tomorrow night, I'm ushering for the matinee of Moon for the Misbegotten, and hopefull seeing "His Girl Friday" at the Normal Theatre later on. So it should be an entertaining weekend, except for the mounds of work I don't even want to think about.

My site (notmyshoes.net) is going to expire any minute now, and no one has come through with hosting or a server yet. This pretty much means I'm not going to have a website for a while. So... if you ever wanted to host me... speak now. Please.
