Hiya, kids, I'm heading to Chicago tomorrow evening. The plan is to visit Erin, Josh, and possibly Donnelle. I'll be returning sometime Thursday.
I'm still planning on having the Break Your Resolutions Party on New Year's Day around 10pm, at my place. If I haven't called you, that doesn't mean you're not invited. It just means I don't have A.) your phone number or B.) the nerve to call you.
When I first walked in the door, after being on the road for 12 straight hours, the first thing that I said was, "Oh, my God! The doors... are orange! And the walls... they're GREEN! You PAINTED?" and my mom said something like, "Gee, I've missed you too, sweetie." (And then we did the Kodak-moment-hug thing.)
Basically, being in Normal is kind of like that. Everything is the same, but different and a little weird.
Anyway, I'm going to sleep, good night kids and happy holidays, etc.
...to sit around all day drinking V8 Splash and watching "The West Wing" season one on DVD. My plans, after finishing that, are to watch "Buffy" season five which Dan has loaned me, and then maybe starting some of the things from my list of Things To Do Over Break that don't involve a DVD player.
I've also been doing some Christmas shopping, and renting lots of movies with Dan.
BINGHAMTON FRIENDS:
Carolyn - The first friend I made at Binghamton, we were introduced by our roommates and spent a few hours talking in a bowling alley. Our first date was on September 11, when we went to see Bowling for Columbine. She is of Jewish descent, but is "an unelightened Buddhist." Carolyn is a freshman and officially has no major, but she will likely go into theatre. She is a brilliant actor.
Amanda - Also known as "Sparklies," which is her all-purpose greeting. She is Christian, very upbeat and friendly, and she wears purple leggings. I spent Thanksgiving at her apartment in New York City. She is a freshman and is going to become a nurse. She has Turret's, and is dating Brandon. She likes to act but has not done anything recently.
Brandon - Brandon is a Jewish science nerd who also does theatre. He likes to play computer games. He has a car, so he drives us everywhere (usually Denny's). Brandon is a junior, and a transfer student. He is the group's all-purpose target, and he puts up with it amiably.
Joe - Joe is a Christian. His virginity, which he always brings into every conversation, seems to ooze from his pores. He is dating Elly, who is a senior in high school and lives about forty minutes away. He is a sophomore, majoring in Theatre and Psychology. He was in the ensemble for Hello, Dolly. Joe saves lives with his hugs.
Elly - A senior in high school, dating Joe. I don't know much about her, but she plays sports and damn, she's cute.
Chelsea - A sophomore, who is currently an English major, Theatre minor, but who might switch to the other way around. And might pick up a minor in Cinema again, because she likes watching hours and hours of orange peels. Chelsea has been accused of having no soul because she's very mean to Brandon. But it's funny, really.
Lindsay - A dancer who also does theatre occasionally. Known in some circles as "the girl who got anally fucked in Pippin."
Christie - A senior Creative Writing major who had Spanish and Acting with me last semester. She lives off-campus. She is applying to grad school and lives on coffee and cigarettes. She has been with her boyfriend Jay for two years. Hilarious when she takes over your AIM and pretends to be you, your mother, and your friends' mothers. =)
Ary - A political science major from my Acting class. Kind of has a subversive, smart-ass vibe.
MET AT METCALF:
Dan - We met in the third grade, became very close in high school. We went to ISU together for a year, then he enrolled at Heartland Community College for a while, now he works full-time. The most fun human being on the face of the planet, hands down. Dan and Steph and I lived together last summer in an apartment. Aspires to be on "The Real World" and become the next pop star.
Steph - We met in first grade, became very close in junior high, high school. Currently attends Heartland Community College. Will either be a model, a singer, or a veterinarian. Gorgeous and incredibly sweet.
Julie Fisher - Met in first grade, close friends since fourth grade. Currently attends Penn State, and is an English major. Writes sci fi. The kind of person who's at home in any situation, no matter how nervous it would make the average person. She could kick your ass.
Kat - Close starting in sixth grade. There was some tension for a while, but now she's one of my favorite people in the history of ever. Goes to Cornell Iowa. A hell of a lot of fun to drink with.
Justin - Close beginning in eighth grade. A sort of limbo Catholic. Goes to Augustana, studying to be a therapist. Moral, but never judgmental. On the fencing team. An awe-inspiring actor.
MET AT U-HIGH:
Eric - Met freshman year. I taught him Euchre, which he is now a God of. Attends Illinois State University and manages a shoe store. Generous and very witty.
Josh - Met doing Maxwell Park summer theatre, then discovered we went to the same school. Ran a theatre company together for a while, but went our separate ways. Attends Columbia College in Chicago, a lighting design major. Nicknamed The White Stick. Persnickety... in that good annoying way.
Steve Vittitoe - Met through Josh. A kind of rebellious computer nerd. Steve is an ACS major at Illinois State and works at State Farm Insurance. A talented actor and a hell of a lot of fun to drink with.
Steve Michaels - Met on the Speech Team. Attends Illinois State University. A quiet guy who carefully rations out his biting sarcasm and sharp wit to only those he finds deserving.
Michelle - Hung out a lot in Pre-Calc and during 10:00 lunch, senior year. Attending Taylor, a religious school, but never seems to go to chapel and drinks with her roommates from time to time. Tall and leggy with a great sense of humor.
Megan Dougherty - Also hung out a lot in AP Lang, senior year. Attending Hope, a religious school. Shares my love of creative writing and my hatred of patriarchy. In a word: Demure. =)
Megan Hannah - The Communist Viking with the Carnivorous Hair. A Set-Building God during high school, who was briefly a theatre major at Illinois State, but reconsidered. Slightly abrasive, but one of the most genuine people I know.
Katie "Makes Pie" Karl - Still in high school. A theatre nerd who believes if you build it, they will come. Adorable in every sense of the word.
Katie Sebald - Still in high school. Used to be part of a band, but the band broke up. Kind of on the angsty introspective side, but ridiculously sweet and very generous.
Lauren - Still in high school. Very determined and very pissed off at the Moral Majority and her lingering virginity. Has a bigger cock than you.
ILLINOIS STATE FRIENDS:
Erin - She only seems innocent, but she really is sweet. An English major (who's writing I've never really seen). Just stand back and marvel at the things that come out of her mouth, real for. =)
Julie Janus - Witty, sarcastic, and very open. Has too many majors to list. A very striking supporting actor.
Liz - Witty, sarcastic, and very open. An English major who writes a lot of very compelling poetry.
Donnelle - Shares my love of Denny's fried foods. Fights crime with me under the alias Brassy LeFierce. Cute, compact, and clever as Hell.
R.J. - Insane boy from Amish land. Whatever you do, don't call him quaint.
OTHER:
Seth - 20, an ex-closet-boyfriend with whom I have some of my best Nietzche. Never went to college and was fired from his job in September. Alpha Male Acro-Monkey.
Bret - 21, we met through Josh, he's currently in the military, making some money so he can finally go to college. Swell guy, yay.
